Degrees of Freedom (df, n)

The number of data points associated with a given parameter estimate.

The number of independent pieces of information that go into the estimate of a parameter. Used in, for example, design of experiments, the χ2 distribution, and the F distribution. Alternatively, the number of independent pieces of information that can be specified within a set of table calculations before all other entries in the table are uniquely determined.
