Transformation

General term for changing (in a 1-to-1 fashion) one variable into another variable.

The process of converting a given measured random variable into a new form to facilitate analysis and making a statistical decision. Examples include normalization, taking the log of the data, using the change in data (e.g., slope or integral), change of units, etc.
