Standard Deviation (σ)

An estimate of the spread of a set of numbers.

A measure of the spread of a distribution, defined as the average root-mean-square deviation from the mean of the given data points, typically represented by “σ”.

Technical point: this is the square root of the variance (the second central moment of any statistical distribution).
